Texana Center is a 501(c)3 public, not for profit, organization that provides behavioral healthcare and developmental disabilities services to residents of a six county area that includes Austin, Colorado, Fort Bend, Matagorda, Waller and Wharton Counties. The center began operations on September 1, 1999, following a merger of two other healthcare organizations. Texana Center has its headquarters in Rosenberg in Fort Bend County, which is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. The center has an annual operating budget of $30,200,000 and a staff of 525. Texana serves about 3,000 clients per month in its array of service programs that are located in each of the six counties, covering about 6,000 square miles. The center is designated by the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities Services as the Local Mental Retardation Authority and by the Texas Department of State Health Services as the Local Mental Health Authority. Texana Center maintains two large performance contracts with each of the state agencies listed above, and used general revenue funds to provide services under those contracts on a discounted basis to those who cannot afford to pay the full cost of services. The center also provides services to those with Medicaid, private insurance, and managed care, and is the largest provider of Home and Community-based Services in Texas. Texana Center is a member of the Texas Council of Community MHMR Services, the National Council for Behavioral Healthcare Services, and Mental Health Corporations of America.
